The Power of Scent
When you experience the smell of a rose or a field of lavender, that is the essence of the plants. Once these aromatic substances have been gently distracted, most commonly by steam distillation, they are referred to as essential oils. It takes a large amount of plant material to produce small amounts of distilled oil. For example, one drop of rose oil is made from fifty rose flowers.
Aromatherapy is the art of utilizing the life force of plants in the form of essential oils, also thought of as nature’s medicine, to enhance ones emotional, spiritual and physical well-being.
How It Works
Olfaction, or the sense of smell, works in a unique way compared to the other senses. When you experience a smell, it takes a different pathway through your brain. Instead of going directly to the thalmas (your giant switchboard in the brain), it first sends information to the limbic system, before you are consciously aware of the scent. This part of the brain is linked to emotions, thoughts, moods, behaviors and memories. The limbic system then releases neurotransmitters, which depending on the scent, can create a variety of effects such as feelings of happiness, relaxation for the body or a stronger immune system.
How To Use
The Essential Oil Blends are mixed in pure, organic jojoba oil. This allows for application directly to the skin. Roll on pulse points – the inside of the wrists, either side of the neck or behind the ears. The blends can also be applied to the palms, rub together and inhale the scent with 3 deep breaths.
The Fragrances are made with fragrance oil, not essential oils. Roll on pulse points – the inside of the wrists, either side of the neck or behind the ears.
The Floral Waters can be used on the face and body or for fragrant room sprays. These are best kept refrigerated.
Do not store in direct sunlight, or in extreme temperatures. Shake well before using. Because these products are blended by hand, there may be some settlement of the oils and varying colors between batches.
Do not take products internally. Do not apply to eyes, sensitive areas or mucous membranes.
Pregnant women, nursing mothers and children should not use essential oils without first consulting an appropriately trained healthcare practitioner.
